I am US based. I am looking for a company that will invest my money for me, not long term, but shorter term for income purposes as opposed to growth purposes. Any suggestions on such a company? Surely they exist, I assume they work by getting a portion of whatever they make off the investments they make for their clients…

I am completely new to the world of trading stocks or currency, but I want to get started. I see ads for all these different websites (ameritrade, etrade, etc.), and I was wondering, which (if any) would be the best for a beginner? I’m not looking to get rich quick, but I would like to start investing my money for the long term.

Also, which if any of these sites offers a way to trade currencies? Ideally, I would become a member of the site with the best combination of both of these (trading stocks and currency).

Is forex trading worthwhile as a second income generator?

to be set up for buying and selling stocks rather than futures. In other words, you choose the instrument symbol and have an option to buy or sell….rather than an option for buying a long or short contract. I’m wondering, say if my very first transaction I want to buy a short contract on silver. Would I simply select silver and click on the "sell" box? Is that equivalent to a short contract? So it would be sort of like selling what I don’t have (which of course one can’t do when dealing with normal stocks). And if so, of course it would follow that "buy" would be buying a long contract.
Harley, you are correct. This I certainly don’t know what I am doing but everyone has to start somewhere and I intend on a lengthy simulated trading run till I get my feet under me.
John, thx, your explanation helped. However, I don’t see how saying "buy a short" is wrong because as I read the explanation of what I short future contract is, its basically buying a contract that allows me to sell the underlying commodity at a future date at the present price. So, I would be buying the power to sell at some point in the future (although I realize most people generally do not keep a contract till it expires). The purchase of the contract and the underlying commodity are actually two different things although that are connected.

My father is willing to pay me to use a Foreign Currency Trading software basically all day every day. But, we’ve researched that it is a large investment to get the software to be able to do it. They’re advertising that if you do it all day, everyday you can make "a lot" of money per year off of this. I am concerned before we pay for the software if the program really does work and if you are able to make money off of it?

How should I or my company protect the investment?

The negativity is all around us and it is contagious. Do people just NEED to be negative in order to feel better about themselves?

Whenever I go to seminars there is ALWAYS somebody there who wants to then give their own little mini-seminar on the break or in the restroom telling you why the seminar presenters are all full of crap and why what they are selling just will not work.

Usually these are people who you can tell are not very successful in life. Do they perhaps need to be downers in order to feel better about their own failures in life? I really want to know what others think because I have my own views on this. I’ve attended seminars and presentations by some of the most well known and undeniably successful entrepreneurs in their industry (real estate; Forex investing; Stock Trading; eCommerce Marketing; mail-order; etc.) and these pessimists even say those things about them! I do feel so terribly sorry for the many who never learn that the way to learn how to acquire real wealth is from sitting at the feet of those who have acquired it (and not some professor who earns ,000 a year IF he’s really good.)

Have you had this experience with pessimism -versus- optimism? Are YOU one of these people? If so then please explain WHY you always see the glass as half full rather than half empty. Has this pessimism worked for you?

I understand that you buy currency in "lots" and depending if they go up or down in value you make in profit or loss.

I just don’t understand why the currencies are paired like "EUR/GBP".
